Eric's Perspective
Each month, Erics Perspective takes a look at life in a light-hearted and very unique manner which writer Eric Novak does so well.
Using his trademark style of using an open mind, Eric discusses topics that deal with everyday life with a touch of humour thrown in.Its hoped that after each column people will begin to think about what was written and how it applies to them.Humour that makes you think is one of the most effective ways of communicating a message and through this column Eric hopes to achieve just that.
Eric's Perspective is written monthly and is published in various small and medium market paper's in Ontario. The list of paper's carrying the column include:
Snap Ajax which is a FREE monthly print publication specializing in a "non-political" friendly and entertaining photographic view of living in Ajax and Durham Region. Visit www.snapajax.com.
Eric welcomes your comments regarding his column. To do so please SEND AN E-MAIL to him and he would be glad to hear from you.
Right off the top, I want to say my wife never gives herself enough credit for the work she does as a stay at home mom. While some professionals design buildings or try to cure diseases, I doubt anyone can match the achievement of my wife recently as she successfully potty trained my twin boys together and at the same time in just under one week. Admittedly the process has been a struggle... more >>
Any regular visitors to YouTube will likely have seen a couple of videos that display how computer software such as Photoshop can take an average looking woman and nip/tuck/bleach/brush her into the uber-model that you see on billboards. It’s pretty scary to be honest to see how photos can be manipulated today. Back before digital photography most of us took a picture with our 35mm camera,... more >>
Similar to life in general it can be said that parenting is a continuous evolution of new experiences and learning on the fly. Such is the case right now with my wife and I and The Tooth Fairy. Given that my eldest only turned 5 in late July, we really hadn’t taken the time to read our Tooth Fairy 101 Manual as we thought the need to do so was still some time away. Much to our big... more >>
I recently celebrated my birthday and like so many of us I received a Gift Card from someone as a present. I quite like Gift Cards since they ultimately free me up to purchase what I want as opposed to usually making a discreet and apologetic exchange afterwards. That said I have, over time, developed an understanding that the value of a Gift Card will never, ever wind up covering all that I walk... more >>
If you have ever been to a fundraiser of any sort chances are that you know all about Silent Auctions. If so I’m sure this will hit very close to home. As a fundraising tool, we must all admit as to just how effective they are. Quite often these auctions make us do things that our rational minds usually wouldn’t let us. Silent auctions involve a brilliant process whereby items are... more >>
Around this time of the year over in Pamplona, Spain there is an annual event that draws attention from all over the world known as the “Running of the Bulls”. While being a bizarre and dangerous spectacle it clearly creates tremendous publicity for the city and one would think significant revenue as well. However right here in the GTA and Central Ontario we have a similar event that... more >>
I am sure that Murphy, in his infinite wisdom created a law that relates to the fact that “Small” projects around the house seldom, if ever stay that way for long. To my fellow husbands, I’d like to suggest that if our wives typically roll their eyes at us when we mention we are about to start a small project around the house, it’s likely with good reason. I’m... more >>
While they say Victoria Day is the unofficial kick off of summer, in my household we marked it a week later with the beginning of soccer season for my eldest son. This year will be his second season. In the week that lead up to the season starting just recently it was all my wife and I could do to prevent him from sleeping with his cleats on. My wife and I were prepared for how he counted down... more >>
I have often used my 3 young boys as a great source of material for this column, and with good reason. It continually amazes me as to just how much one can be enlightened by simply standing back and observing young children as they view the world in their own unique way. The following provides some examples. My eldest son may be 4-1/2 but I swear his mind is going on 7. He understands things... more >>
Most Canadians like to celebrate the arrival of spring. It’s an annual rite of passage that’s identified by certain traditions which include various Maple Syrup festivals, the changing of the clocks and perhaps most notably the beginning of “Roll up the Rim to Win.” Professionally speaking, I tip my hat to the brilliance of this campaign. However as a coffee consumer, I... more >>
